Townships 2006 National Night Out was again a resounding success. The turnout was tremendous, even with the 100 degree plus heat earlier in the day. Thousands of hotdogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob and ice cream, all donated by local businesses made the evening totally enjoyable. This year was notable for the lack of food lines, a result of a larger area from which to get food, and three helicopters landing at the Park.

A variety of demonstrations and exhibitions were present. Independence Township K9 Officer Sgt. Dennis Reilly demonstrated the
ability of his police dog, and Quest Karate exhibited their proficiency
in the martial arts. The Long Valley First Aid Squad demonstrated the procedure for an extraction form an overturned vehicle, and the Schooley’s Mountain Fire Protection
Association sprayed water from their tower truck at the conclusion of evening, a cooling relief for many.
The Washington Township Officers, the Community Policing Unit, and the staff from Long Valley
Pizza served the crowd with the assistance of the Teens against Crime (TAC). The evening was
a great opportunity for the kids in attendance to continue their collection
of police trading cards.
The Community Policing Unit would like to give special thanks to Harrington/Hoffman
Supply for their donation of popsicles, fresh popped popcorn, generators, lights
and other equipment needed to make the evening a success. The Community Policing Unit would additionally like to thank the Long Valley
Area Junior Woman's Club, the Kiwanis Club, and the Key Club, Wayne
Laraway of Game Faces, Sprinkles the Clown, the Hackettstown Dairy Queen,
Ort Farm, the 2nd Battalion 102nd Armor from Port Murray, the New Jersey State Police, Atlantic Health Care of Morristown, Radio Control Airplanes, the
Washington Township Parks and Recreation Department, the Department of Public Works,
the Long Valley First Aid Squad, the Fairmont Fire Company, the Schooley's
Mountain Fire Protection Association, and the Long Valley Fire Company,
and all the other residents and organizations and volunteers who helped make National Night
Out a great success again this year.
